On 6 November we had one newborn caiman and this was the only one who survived. This is the first one ever born in Finland. We had some problems with temperature (which wandered between 29-32 celcius degree), humidity and ventilation. Our first egg cracked and the fetus died. This was be caused by stagnant, standing air. We fixed that problem and then we had second newborn caiman who died. She was developmently handicapped. I think this might have been caused by extreme drops in temperature at night - our thermostat malfunctioned and it got cold inside. We incubated the eggs about 11 weeks (if I remember correctly). We used the same kind of incubator that we use with snake eggs. Maybe next year we will have better luck...and skills.
If you'd like to purchase a hatchling check our "For Sale" section Pictures from our first two nests can be found here. Pictures from our first two clutches can be found here.
